What are you connecting to

Working remotely, or from home, is not a new thing. What is new, and a growing trend, is the number of people who hot desk, or work from cafes on a regular basis, and use "public WiFi" to do so.

In your average coffee shop offering WiFi, you'll find most of the visitors connected to that WiFi, be it on their mobile phones or laptops. Few of those visitors will pause to question or consider whether it is safe to use.

Not all WiFi is safe to use.

There are some simple things you can do to improve security.

  1. Check that you are actually connecting to the premises WiFi.
  2. Use a VPN.
  3. Don't do online banking on public WiFi.
  4. Sit where your screen isn't overlooked.
  5. Don't leave your device(s) unattended.
